New Series: A Good Heritage

Footprints

As parents, we are all influencing the direction of our children's lives.  We are setting them on a path.  We are leaving them an example.  We are giving them a heritage.

Psalm 16:6, "The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage."

Our goal as parents is to leave our children a good heritage.  There are certain things we should be passing on to our kids.  The Bible teaches us what kind of example we should be and what we should be passing on to the next generation.

Do you have a plan to pass something on to your children?  What kind of things to you want to pass on to your kids?

Over the next several weeks, we're going to see from the Bible the heritage we should be handing down to our children.  Don't miss a week of this helpful and challenging series.

New Book Recommendations!

Train Up a Child

If you scroll down, you'll find a section in the left hand column where there is a list of helpful books.  I recently added to that list and I wanted to share that with you.

The first book I've added is called To Train Up a Child.  This is a great book on child rearing.  Another book I've added is called Created to Be His Helpmeet.  This is a wonderful book for ladies who desire to be what God wants them to be for their husbands.  People always have questions and are seeking counsel in the areas of marriage and child rearing.  Reading books like these will help get you going in the right direction!

New Series: The Eternal Security of the Believer (and Homework 2)

Padlock

I started a new series in our class on Sunday.  We'll take the next few weeks and look closely at the Biblical doctrine of Eternal Security.  This doctrine can be stated fairly succinctly this way:  “Eternal security means that one who has been genuinely saved by God’s grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone shall never be in danger of God’s condemnation or loss of their salvation, but are kept forever saved and secure by God’s grace and power.”

Eternal Security is an encouraging and empowering  truth for the believer.  Join us as we study this great subject!

Biblical Fundamentalism

Open Bible

I finished a brief series on Biblical Fundamentalism today.  As I stated in a previous post, there is a lot of confusion and misconceptions about being a fundamentalist.

Fundamental means: a leading or primary principal, rule, law or article, which serves as the groundwork of a system.

To be a fundamentalist anything simply means that you believe in the foundational principles of that thing.  I gave the illustration of a basketball coach who believes and teaches the "fundamentals" of the game.  That's a good coach!  Consider this, if you take away or alter the fundamentals of basketball, you no longer have basketball!

A Biblical Fundamentalist is someone who believes the basic, central truths of the Bible.

It's really as harmless as it sounds!  A Biblical Fundamentalist is someone who simply takes God at His Word.  I believe the Bible, therefore I am a Biblical Fundamentalist.

Most people don't have a problem with someone who believes the Bible.  They have a problem with someone who acts on those beliefs.  A Biblical Fundamentalist will stand out.  Their life will be noticeably different from a person who does not believe the Bible.

One of the things we touched on in our series were some of the basic, central truths of the Bible.  These doctrines are fundamental to Christianity.  If you take away or alter them, you no longer have Christianity!  These doctrines include:

  1. The Inspiration of the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16)
  2. The Virgin Birth of Christ (Isaiah 7:14)
  3. The Blood Atonement (1 Peter 1:18-19)
  4. The Deity of Christ (1 Timothy 3:16)
  5. The Bodily Resurrection and Return of Christ (Acts 1:2-3 and Acts 1:11)

Every Christian ought to be a Biblical Fundamentalist.  God gave us the Bible so we could know Him and His wonderful salvation.  Thank God for a heritage of Bible believers whom God has used to pass His truth on to us!
